Bombs Away: Pav Goes 7.

Now THAT's what Im talking about!

Tonight's game had it all;  Good starting pitching, some longball, GREAT defense, and the big hit when it was needed.  Pav becomes the first starter to get out of the 5th, and he looked solid.  Given the state of the staff, I think that Carl did a he77 of a job and picked his mates up, making his pitches when he had to, and what I liked the most was his effectiveness.  79 Pitches?  That's whats up.  He got the double plays when he needed to, and the offense had his back, as Jorgie hit a shot to left that bounced in the seats for 2.  Speaking of locked in, what about A-Rod, as he sent a screamer the opposite way, and those are the ones that I like seeing, thats his power zone and he is absolutely CRUSHING the ball at this point.  Bobb-O hits his first dinger, and he crushed a meatball off of Our Favorite Fatty.  Sidney Ponson left his pitches everywhere, and was nowhere near effective.  I think that right now, I can go 4-5 off this dude, and my last at-bat was me trying to look cute up there.

Defense was another thing dogging the Bombers last week, but the leather show was in full effect tonight.  DJ makes another great play, and Robbie goes across his body and against momentum to get his man.  NIce.  Like I mentioned before, Pav got the double play ball when he needed it, as he started one and DJ goes 6-3 on another one.  Johnny Damon showed no ill effects of his strained calf as he hustled out and made some key plays.

I cant stop talking about Carl Pavano, but he was downright good tonight.  He was effective, throwing 79 and only gave up 2 runs.  This is the type of performance that we needed, and the type of performance that can set the precedence for the starting rotation for the week to come.  When he got in trouble, he got out of it.  He didnt back down, and was making Joe Mauer look silly for most of the night.  Defense helped out, and I think what sticks out the most was Carl's ability to hold a lead, and the offense had his back too.

Onto tomorrow, as Andy Pettitte looks to give the Yanks another solid performance as he goes up against Boof Bonser.  What kind of name is Boof?  Only he knows, I guess.

LETS GO YANKEES!!!!!

Carl Pavano was Ace-esque tonight. Which is odd, considering this is his 2nd start in almost 2 years. But I'll take 'em any way I get 'em.

Boof is the **** dumbest name I've ever heard. I mean, BOOF?! Good Lord.

Pavs was definitely the start of the game. the defense looked sharp behind him. If the rotation and hold the opposing teams to 4 runs or less, heck, even 5. The Yanks are going to easily roll past 100.

J, Im more concerned about the starters making a short game out of it, ala the bullpens of 96-99, where the game ended in the 6th and the bullpen would take care of the rest. All in all a good win, and what stuck out to me now that Im watching the replay is that the Joe Mauer double in the 7th was the only well-hit ball the Twins struck at. Pavs hit his spots, and pitched a gem.

The back of the Twins rotation is why they're not going to repeat last season's success. It's not easy making up the 24 wins they're losing from Francisco Liriano and Brad Radke. Not to mention Liriano's electricity. http://paullebowitz.mlblogs.com/

Yeah losing Liriano was a HUGE blow to the Twins rotation.
